Mas enfim, quando eu me lembrar… :)
Commemorative post
I have a commemorative post today.
First of all, I completed three consecutive months uploading daily sketches on this blog. I'm very happy for mantaining the regularity (I cannot guarantee the quality) within my busy life of the past few months, not even thinking of giving up of this (sick) idea.
Second, I'm keeping the monthly update on my gravure blog, Sonho, since the beginning of this year: it means I'm making at least one gravure by month, something that makes me very happy (and also keep my mental health).
As third reason, still related to Sonho: I've made more posts than the whole year of 2010 and we're still in the first semester of 2011 - wow!
Fourth: soon I hope to surpass here in Nevoeiro the total posts of 2009, witch was the first year of this blog and I was more full of enthusiasm, making more posts.
Fifth: I finished another Opus sketchbook! Yes, the one Fabio gave me. It's the one that fills many of the posts of this home. May eternal thanks to Fabio! :)
Sixth and not less important, and not related at all to this blog, it's three years since I quit smoking and I have no intention or will to be back to it (not so humble, but applause to myself, please).
In this happy day, I'm making a specially wordy post.
Above I've wrote about the Opus sketchbook. This is a very friendly sketchbook, 'cause its shape and size are very comfy to carry around without knowing if you'll find time in your daily life to fill its pages. I like it very much, but people who sketch have a strange tendency to have fetiches on materials as paper, notebooks, pen, pencils, brushes, etc., I'm not exception and also have my fall for sketchbooks.
At this moment, I'm starting to fill this big one: a heavy wire-o binding sketchbook much larger then the Opus (around 10.6 x 12.6 in), which the sketches I've been already uploading here.(img)
Its cover is kinda boring, but I thought that the large, close to A3, size could be a change concerning to the sketching area I'm used to fill in Opus sketchbook. That's why sometimes I upload some loose papers sketches, bigger or smaller then the Opus's size aroud here.
The funny story about this notebook is when I bought it at Papelaria Universitária: the shop-assistant has asked me if I was a pupil of Professor so and so (sorry, I don't remember the name she said) from Mackenzie. I answered I wasn't then she told me that the sketchbook was made by that professor's request, by the way, an professor of architecture (ok, you can laugh now). Anyway, what I though interesting was to discover the professor's need to order a special sketchbook for their pupil as part of his list of materials. I suspect that his pupils don't sketch anymore, something that made him put this item on his list.
This big sketchbook has, of course, some translucent paper inside, a material that I use as a inherited skill of the former architecture school, I have to confess. But it's useful to mirrowing on gravure, that's a fact.
But I have some fancy sketchbooks, which I cannot use exactly because... they're fancy.
Some year ago, I bought this big black one, A4-sized, nice, white and thick paper, hard cover, etc. at Casa do Artista.(img)
I've made some sketches of "artistic ideas", but now it's in standby mode. For years. My professor used to say that it's worthwhile to print a lot on a cheaper paper then be stingy with expensive material and not practise printing. Wise master.(img)
Another purchase still asleep somewhere in my house is this very nice Tilibra's sketchbook (around 9.1 x 11 in) - very expensive, cream-coloured and softly texturized pages having preforation to perhaps detach it from the binding. Other one I don't use for greedy?
Other sketchbook I've pruchased years ago (it's serious: this one I bought last centry) and love is this french hardcovered sketchbook (around 7.3 x 9.1 in).(img)
Its pages are getting yellowish at the edges and inside it has just... one sketch. The only one I've made during my trip around Europe: a man sat at Vienna'a airport waits a fly to Paris. By the way, do I have to upload this sketch? I also should upload some photos I've made during this trip, shouldn't I? I think it's still missing the dutch, austrian and the last part of Paris. Well, maybe in some future... :)
Back to sketchbooks, I don't have only bought ones - there are some that I don't use for emotional attachment as this beautiful one handmaded by Yukari.(img)
Look how posh it is: the endpaper is bright red - wondeful!(img)
Another sketchbook I cannot use it's my crooked onehandmaded by me, the big blue sketchbook.(img)
It's huge (around 9.6 x 13 in) with thick sulphite paper, therefore very heavy and dense. I cutted it using cutter knife, making pages with jagged edges. A poor job, but made with love. The cover fabric isn't the ideal one - normally it's cotton -, but I used a shiny and splippy synthetic fabric which wasn't easy to glue (actually, the fabric was a cushion cover - I've used it because it was whrinkled, shiny and nice - ok, I let myself be carried by appearances).
The one I think it's the crème de la crème of all sketchbooks is this one which I got from a Marcia's friend: a Taschen sketchbook with the cover of Jean-Paul Gaulier (7.3 x 8.9 in).(img)
I cannot simply use this one because I just burst out laughing all the time I see its cover. I think it's marvellous! And I think I'll be laughing everytime I enter this blog and see this post until the server archive it.
There's another reason to keep updating the blog everyday: to stopof this crazy laughing before Gaultier. :)
As if on cue, the today's image: at health centre.(img)
Still on Opus sketchbook, blue ballpoint pen on.
